The red velvet cake for Sahana. A very unsuccessful red velvet at that, I must say. Forgot to take a photo of the inside layers(!), but this is a small prototype cake I made for home (eggless, for mom). The frosting always gets messed up.  Also, magic candles are fun *giggle*!

June 24, 2011 Layer 1: Chocolate cake (not visible) Layer 2: Rasberry jelly Layer 3: Vanilla Custard Layer 4: Sprinkles and Chocolate Chips ….= One disaster of a trifle + very happy (and stupid, obviously) children How to make kids eat crap Crap in your opinion = all calories, no nutrition Step 1: Throw a couple of supermarket recipes together. Eg: Jelly, custard: stuff you wouldn’t eat yourself if you can help it, because its so loaded with sugar. Step 2: Put loads and loads of colourful sprinkles on top. That’s it. really. How to make kids eat crap Crap in their opinion = vegetables Step 1: Cook pasta until al dente. Step 2: Don’t bother chopping the vegetables in exactly the same shape and size. Just tear them into chunks and throw into a mixer. Step 3: Puree the vegetables. Take vicious pleasure in it. Make sure you use as many vegetables as possible, including leafy ones like Spinach. (Trust me, even for adults. I put two tablespoons of spinach puree in my pasta today morning. One never even notice the leafy taste of it, just added general creaminess). Step 4: Cook the vegetable puree in a little oil. Any oil. Doesn’t matter. Just cook till the volume has sort of reduced and the colour has changed. That sort of thing. Step 5: Mix in the pasta. Put in whatever seasonings you usually do: salt, pepper, chilli, oregano, etc. Step 6: (Preferably) don’t bother with the cheese. The young brats don’t deserve it. If at all, grate in some feta or the unspecified Indian cheese cubes. Just a little. Step 7: You have two options now. Option 1 is to present it as it is. Don’t tell the children what the ingredients are. Watch the unsuspecting juvenile delinquents lap up the vegetables with the pasta. Haha, ignorant youth. Option 2 is to grate some cheese on top and put it in a hot oven till you get a nice golden brown cheesy layer on top. Then present to the squirts and tell them it has vegetables inside. Watch them struggle to resist their favourite dish, and then when they give in; the horror of discovering they can’t separate out the hated vegetables. Enjoy.
